Overview

The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run is Glasgow’s flagship mass-participation running event, celebrating the “strength, spirit, and humor” of Scotland’s friendliest city. Thousands of runners take to the streets each year to challenge themselves across 10k and Half Marathon distances. The event is a true city-wide festival, starting in the heart of the urban center and winding through Glasgow’s famous green spaces and past iconic architectural landmarks.

The weekend also features a dedicated youth program on Saturday, making it a full family affair. With live music “entertainment zones” every kilometer, the atmosphere is electric, fueled by the legendary Glasgow crowds who turn out in force to cheer and high-five participants from start to finish. Whether you’re running for a personal best or for charity, the Great Scottish Run offers a “big-race” feel with an authentically warm Scottish welcome.

Event Highlights

  • The Route of Landmarks: Runners pass through the city’s diverse architecture and cross the River Clyde, taking in sights like the Hydro, the Finnieston Crane, and the lush surroundings of Pollok and Bellahouston Parks.
  • Entertainment Zones: Local bands, DJs, and charity cheer squads line the course to keep motivation high with non-stop music.
  • Iconic Finish Line: Both the 10k and Half Marathon conclude with a grandstand finish at Glasgow Green, the city’s oldest public park.
  • Super Saturday: The day before the main events features the Junior (2.5k), Mini (1.5k), and the adorable Toddler Dash, ensuring kids of all ages get their own medal moment.

Why Attend

This is the premier event for experiencing Glasgow’s unique energy. It is ideal for runners of all abilities—the 10k is notably flat and fast, perfect for beginners, while the Half Marathon offers a more technical challenge through the city’s south side.

FAQ's

When will I receive my race pack?

Race packs, which include your personalized race number and timing chip, are typically posted to UK-based participants approximately two weeks before the event. If you enter within the final 10 days or are an overseas runner, you must collect your pack from the Information Point in the city center on the Saturday or Sunday morning of the event weekend.

Is there a bag drop service available?

Yes, a mobile baggage service is provided. Runners can leave their bags on designated Baggage Buses located near the start on St Vincent Street. These buses are then driven to the finish line at Glasgow Green, where you can collect your belongings after you cross the finish line using your race number as identification.

What is the age limit for the different races?

For the 10k, participants must be aged 15 or over on the day of the race. For the Half Marathon, the minimum age is 17. Younger runners can take part in the Saturday program: the Mini Run is for ages 3–8 (must run with an adult), and the Junior Run is for ages 9–15.

Are there water stations along the route?

Yes, there are multiple hydration stations located at regular intervals (approx. every 5km) on both the 10k and Half Marathon routes. These stations provide bottled water, and some locations also offer energy gels or isotonic drinks. All waste is collected for recycling as part of the event's sustainability commitment.

What happens if I need to withdraw from the race?

The Great Run Company generally allows for entries to be withdrawn or deferred to the following year if requested before a specific cut-off date (usually several weeks before the event). However, once your race number has been processed, refunds are typically not issued. It is recommended to check the specific "Withdrawal Policy" on the official website for the 2026 terms.
