Over the years, it has welcomed millions of visitors and established itself as a key institution for marine education, research, and conservation. With over 35 aquariums, including its famous Oceanarium, it showcases Mediterranean and tropical marine ecosystems, offering a close-up look at hundreds of species.
In 2025, the aquarium celebrated its 30th anniversary with a complete transformation. This renewal introduced cutting-edge immersive technologies, interactive educational spaces, and innovative exhibits that highlight both the beauty and fragility of ocean life. Today, it continues to serve as both an entertainment landmark and an environmental hub, inspiring future generations to value and protect the seas.

Full Description
Step into the transformed Barcelona Aquarium and discover an experience that blends marine science, entertainment, and innovation. Located in Port Vell, this family-friendly attraction has been completely reimagined with new technology and interactive features to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Begin your journey by walking across Europe’s largest digital floor screen, where colorful marine visuals immediately draw you into the world beneath the waves. From there, dive into “Journey to the Depths,” an immersive room where projections and simulations take you on an underwater adventure through vibrant ecosystems aboard the SubAqua Explorer.
With more than 80 aquariums, the Mediterranean Sea is at the heart of the aquarium, featuring exhibits inspired by the Medes Islands and the Ebro Delta. Tropical aquariums showcase exotic coral reefs, mangroves, and rare species like sea dragons. The highlight is the immense Oceanarium, 36 meters in diameter and 5 meters deep, where you’ll walk through an 80-meter-long transparent tunnel surrounded by sharks, rays, moray eels, and hundreds of other marine animals.
Children and adults alike can enjoy interactive experiences such as Aqua Protectors, where kids design their own digital fish, or SOS Oceans, which combines science and emotion in a call for ocean conservation. The Planeta Aqua exhibition emphasizes the importance of water in shaping life on Earth, using sensory and educational installations to engage all five senses.
After exploring, visitors can relax at the on-site café, browse souvenirs at the shop, or simply take in the views of Port Vell’s vibrant waterfront.
